Two Indian students from Cleveland State University have died in a fatal road accident in New York, the Indian Consulate said on Tuesday. The students have been identified as Manav Patel (20) and Saurav Prabhakar (23), PTI reported.
According to the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office, Prabhakar was driving the car when the accident took place in East Cocalico Township on May 10. Prabhakar and Patel died at the scene, while another passenger sitting in the front seat was injured and rushed to a local hospital.
The exact cause of the accident is not yet known, but CCTV footage shows the vehicle veered off the road, hit a tree and then crashed into a bridge.
The Consulate General of India in New York has expressed “deep sorrow” over the tragic deaths of two Indian students at Cleveland State University. In a statement on X, the consulate said it is in touch with the families of the students and is providing all possible assistance.
“Extremely saddened to learn about the unfortunate road accident that claimed the lives of two Indian students at Cleveland State University, Manav Patel and Saurav Prabhakar,” the consulate wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
