Tensions on the border between Pakistan and Taliban-led Afghanistan have reached alarming levels. After Pakistan launched an airstrike on Kabul, the Afghan army retaliated by attacking Pakistani posts on the Durand Line. This violence has spread to Kunar and Helmand provinces. Many Gulf countries, including India, have appealed for immediate peace on the border.
Explaining the reason behind the attack on Afghanistan, the Pakistani army said, ‘Many bases are being built in Afghanistan against Pakistan, evidence of which has also been found. We have taken this necessary step to protect lives and property.’ However, amid this tension, Pakistan has accused India of supporting Afghanistan by making political statements.
The Taliban has launched a fierce attack on the Pakistani army in response to Pakistan’s air strikes on Afghanistan. According to an AP report, the Taliban claims that 58 Pakistani soldiers have been killed and 30 injured in retaliation by the Afghan army. The Taliban government’s main spokesman, Zabihullah, claims that the Afghan army has captured 25 Pakistani posts.
