Captain Gill’s big statement after the series win, said – ‘I am getting used to it now’

After IPL 2025, many changes have been seen in Team India. Shubman Gill was given the responsibility of captaincy in Team India’s 5 Test matches against England. After that, under the leadership of Captain Shubman Gill, India got a clean sweep of the Test series against West Indies 2-0, and Shubman Gill is being praised a lot.

Talking about his captaincy, cricketer Shubman Gill said, ‘Now I am getting used to this role. It is a matter of pride for me to handle all the players and lead the team. The most important thing as a captain is to take the right decision at the right time. The situation of every match is different, and decisions have to be taken accordingly. Sometimes it becomes necessary to take bold decisions, it is based on which player can give you runs or wickets at which moment.’

India implemented the follow-on in the Test played against the West Indies in Delhi. Regarding this decision, Gill said, ‘We were ahead by about 270 runs. If we had scored 500 runs and let them bat again, it would have been difficult to take 6-7 wickets on the fifth day. That is why we decided to give the follow-on.’

Young player Nitish Reddy was given a chance to play in both the matches against the West Indies. In the Ahmedabad Test, he did not get a chance to bat, but bowled four overs. Then in the first innings of the Delhi Test, he got a chance to bat and played an important innings of 43 runs. On this issue, Gill said, ‘We do not want players to get a chance to play only on foreign tours. This puts more pressure on them. We are preparing players who can go abroad and win because that has always been a challenge for us.’

Captain Gill played an innings of 50, 129 not out and 13 runs in the series. About his performance, he said, ‘When I come out to bat, my focus is on one thing, which is to help the team win. Whether I am the captain or not, my focus on the field is always that my batting helps the team win.’ After this series, Shubman Gill has emerged not only as a reliable batsman, but also as a wise and calm captain, who has strengthened the future direction for Team India.
