After the huge success of films like ‘Baahubali’ and ‘RRR’, director S.S. Rajamouli is coming up with a film titled ‘Varanasi’. In a recent promotional event for this film, Rajamouli had said, ‘I don’t believe in God’, due to which he is being criticized. Such words of the director, who is famous for making films based on Hindu mythology, have hurt the sentiments of the people and this issue has created an atmosphere of controversy.
The poster and teaser release program of ‘Varanasi’ was held at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad. However, the teaser of the film was ‘leaked’ before this event. While the technical test of the teaser release was going on on a huge LED screen in Ramoji Film City, someone illegally recorded the teaser using a drone and then uploaded it on social media, which left Rajamouli disappointed.
To console the disappointed Rajamouli, his father had said, ‘Hanumanji will take care of everything’, which got Rajamouli angry. Regarding this, Rajamouli had said in the program, ‘I don’t believe in God. Is he (Hanumanji) taking care of everything like this?’
He was referring to the technical difficulties in the program of his film and the leaked teaser. During this, Rajamouli had also said, ‘My wife also believes in Hanumanji a lot and talks to him as a friend. I also get angry about this.’
Rajamouli’s words hurt the feelings of the people and their echo was immediately echoed on social media. An angry user commented, “Rajamouli’s films like Baahubali and RRR are tinged with mythology. This was not expected from a person of his stature.” Another user questioned, “If he is truly an atheist, then why does he use gods and mythological characters in his films?”
