Indian-origin businessman Tanmay Sharma has been arrested at the Los Angeles International Airport in the US in connection with a Rs 1,244 crore ($149 million) healthcare fraud case. He is the founder and former CEO of Sovereign Health Group, which provided addiction and mental health services. However, the organisation is now defunct. According to reports, 61-year-old Tanmay Sharma defrauded health insurance companies by making false claims of $149 million. He also paid $21 million (about Rs 175 crore) in bribes to recruit patients. Tanmay Sharma has been charged with four counts of wire fraud, one count of conspiracy and three counts of illegal referral. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) team had been investigating the case since 2017. The FBI team had been investigating the case since 2017. Under this, raids were also conducted at the treatment centers, headquarters and residence of Tanmay Sharma of Sovereign Health in Southern California. The organization had stopped operations in 2018. Paul Jin Sen has also been arrested in this case, who declared himself innocent in court. His trial will begin on July 29.
