According to the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), a powerful earthquake of magnitude 6.6 has struck the northwest coast of the Tanimbar Islands in eastern Indonesia this evening (October 28). The earthquake occurred at 9:40 pm local time. The epicenter of the earthquake is located about 183 km northwest of Tanimbar at a depth of 185 km.
Regarding the earthquake, officials said that there is no tsunami threat due to this earthquake at present. According to the report, there are no reports of casualties or damage due to the earthquake at present. It is worth noting that earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur frequently in Indonesia.
