Storm havoc in Vietnam, historic flood situation : two lakh houses submerged

Storm Matmo has caused terrible flooding in Vietnam’s Thai Nguyen province. This flood is so terrible that it is being called historic. So far, at least four people have died in this flood, two are missing and about 2 lakh houses have been submerged in water. The entire area has been devastated by this storm. According to officials, 45 rural areas have been affected so far. However, there are fears that the death toll will still rise.

About 2 lakh mud houses have been submerged in water in Nguyen province, due to which millions of people have become homeless. Schools, markets and hospitals have also been closed. Roads, bridges and power lines have also been severely damaged due to the flood.

Since Thai Nguyen is an agricultural region, the floods have taken a heavy toll on farmers’ livelihoods. More than 5,400 hectares of rice, vegetable and fruit crops have been completely destroyed. Fishermen’s fish ponds have also been severely damaged. In addition, more than 136,000 poultry and other birds, which are a major source of income for farmers, have also died. This huge loss could push millions of families to the brink of starvation.

The Vietnamese government has launched immediate relief operations. The army and local authorities are distributing food, medicine and blankets by boat. Rescue teams are working tirelessly to save people. International organizations such as the Red Cross are also sending aid.
