A severe storm in the US has killed 27 people in the last 48 hours. Seven states, including Missouri and southeastern Kentucky, have been hit hardest. Of the 27 deaths, 18 were in Kentucky, 7 in Missouri and 2 in North Virginia.

The death toll could rise further. According to PowerOutage.US, as of Saturday morning, about 6.60 lakh homes in 12 states were without power.

During the storm, winds gusted to 160 km per hour. Roofs and walls of many houses were blown off in the strong winds. Cities were reduced to rubble. Thousands of people have been left homeless. Thousands have been shifted to relief camps.

Due to the high wind speed, it turned into a severe storm. This caused more damage in these areas. According to media reports, this storm will last for several days. Heavy rain and strong winds may continue for the next few weeks.

Although it is a matter of relief that this storm-producing system is now weakening, there is a possibility of another severe storm near the Mexican border, due to which more than 20 million people in the southwestern United States may have to face difficulties.
