A report issued by the United Nations has alerted about the declining birth rate in many countries of the world, including India. This report says that the birth rate in India has now dropped to 1.9 per couple, which is less than the replacement level. Demographers believe that the replacement level of the population is 2.1, so in such a situation, the fertility rate remaining at 1.9 is a matter of concern. Although its direct impact on India’s population is not visible at present, but after a generation, i.e. after a few decades, a serious concern may arise. Now the question is what are the reasons for this decline in the birth rate? The answer to this question has also been given in the United Nations report. This report has been prepared on the basis of a survey of 14 countries of the world. In this survey, people were also asked a question regarding the declining birth rate, why do you produce fewer children than you want to produce or why do you not produce any children at all? The answers given by people to this question make many things clear and also explain people’s concerns. Talking about India, 13% of people said that they are unable to produce children because they are facing infertility or difficulty in conceiving. Apart from this, 14% of people said that they are facing medical problems related to pregnancy. On the other hand, 15% of people say that they cannot become parents due to poor health or serious illness. Another concern is financial, about which 38% of people have expressed their opinion. These people say that they do not want to expand their family due to financial difficulties. They feel that if the family expands too much, then things like raising children, education, housing, etc. will not be done in an orderly manner. On the other hand, 22% of people are concerned about housing and 21% do not want to have children due to lack of employment opportunities. Interestingly, the number of people who refrain from expanding their family due to financial concerns is also 38% in America.
