Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Thursday. The meeting lasted for about one and a half hours at the Taj Lands End Hotel in Mumbai. The event was not in CM Fadnavis’ schedule.
After this sudden meeting, there is talk in political circles that the possibility of an alliance between Shiv Sena and MNS (UBT) which was currently in the works may be put on hold for the time being.
In fact, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray had hinted at an alliance with his cousin Raj Thackeray on June 6. Uddhav had said that whatever the people of Maharashtra want, it will happen.
Raj Thackeray had split from Shiv Sena in 2006 and formed MNS. Municipal elections are likely to be held in Maharashtra by September this year. Due to the poor performance of Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS in the 2024 assembly elections, there is a lot of talk of an alliance between the two parties. Uddhav’s party got only 20 seats in the 2024 elections. Also, MNS’s account did not open either.
