A ceasefire was finally announced on Friday (October 10) in the war between Israel and Hamas that has been going on since October 7, 2023. The ceasefire agreement on the 20-point proposals of US President Donald Trump has come into effect in Gaza today. Meanwhile, the Chief of Staff of the Israeli Army (IDF), Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, said, ‘The army will not sit still until we bring back all the hostages. It is the moral, national and Jewish duty of the Israeli army to bring back all the hostages.’
Hamas still holds the bodies of 21 dead hostages, having returned only 7 bodies in the last two days. Earlier on Monday, Hamas released all 20 surviving hostages. Regarding the bodies of the dead hostages, IDF Chief Zamir said, “We will remain steadfast in implementing all agreements together with the political leadership. But we will not sit still until we bring back all the hostages.”
On Wednesday, Hamas handed over the bodies of four dead hostages to Israel. However, an Israeli media report said that one of the bodies returned by Hamas was not that of an Israeli hostage. The body that Hamas sent, claiming to be an Israeli hostage, is that of a person from the Gaza Strip.
Speaking to the media, an Israeli official said that one of the bodies returned by Hamas is not that of an Israeli hostage but that of a Palestinian.
Israeli far-right minister Itamar Ben Gvir has been outraged over the wrong body being handed over. He wrote on the social media platform X, “We are deeply humiliated. Shortly after opening the road for hundreds of trucks, Hamas has quickly returned to its usual ways of lying, treachery and deceiving families and bodies. Nazi terrorism only understands the language of weapons. The only way to confront it is to wipe its name from the face of the earth.”
Earlier this year, Hamas also handed over a wrong body to Israel. Hamas claimed that the body was that of deceased hostage Shiri Bibus. However, Israel said that the body was not that of Bibas but of a Palestinian from Gaza. After Israel caused a huge uproar, Hamas handed over the real body to Israel.
